HOLLA ladies! I’m back! Yes I’m so back from a very much needed blogging break. It has been awhile since my last post and I’ve missed you all and my beauty ranting on here so much! So you can consider this a little soft come back post.;D

Recently Mr. James and I visited Murdock Hackett in Covent Garden. You may have recalled Mr. James guest blogpost and talked about his favourite grooming products on HERE, where Murdock London is one of his Holy Grails. I must tell you honestly ( not that I’m biased ;D) Mr. James is a proper gentleman and not an ungroomed fella. He is no stranger to the barber’s chair and likes to look his best at all times (head to toe ;D)! So finding the best places in London to have his hair trimmed, beard shaved, and facials is quite important. How does a man look his best ? Like us women, it doesn’t come without effort. From the right skin moisturiser to the perfect hair and brush combination, the ideal grooming regime is a matter of utmost importance. Murdock London has everything! A classic barbershop but with a very modern twist. They offer superior, quality services which include beard and hair styling, cool traditional wet shaves and even lovely facials while relaxing with a whisky, coffee or beer in your hand!

Murdock London also boast a collection of skincare and men’s grooming products like their colognes which smell so divine! It is the go-to grooming choice for gentlemen of good taste. They provide a broad selection of gift sets which are already decoratively wrapped up for the festive season. My husband wanted to focus also more with Murdock’s skincare range so we have “The Gentleman’s Skincare Set £35” to review, a perfect skincare grooming kit for the gentleman on the go. All the gift sets can be found HERE online and in all their stores in Shoreditch, Soho (Liberty of London), Covent Garden, at Hackett Spitalfields, Hackett Covent Garden and at Hackett Sloane Street. With 8 barbers’ shops around the capital and also one in Paris as well, it’s the answer to every stylish man-about-town’s prayers.

The branch we went into was in King Street, a lovely private space inside the stylish surroundings of Hackett’s grand townhouse that sits just across the road from the famous Covent Garden Plaza.  Being one of Hackett’s concept stores, I was quite excited to have a proper walk around the whole townhouse and really loving the vibe. It smells so amazing in there and room full of fine quality British clothing and accessories. Men who take a trip here can walk out as the Complete Gentleman. When you’re done being pampered by the barbers--hair and beard on point even manicures and shoe shines, you can buy the best in British menswear and have your own tailored suit perhaps, keeping it on-point head to toe.

We were warmly welcomed by the Master barber himself, the lovely Alex. My husband loved his anniversary present from 2 years ago— The Luxury Full Service Gift Experience £120 so we decided to have his favourite pampering session again with Alex and after some brief consultation, the magic began. It’s simply ART, “The Art of Manliness”! It’s really amazing to watch everything what Alex is doing while bombarding him gazillions of questions about Murdock London, his love for barbering, grooming tips, skincare, the match made in heaven partnership with Hackett London and Life in general really.

Mark Twain once wrote: ‘What one experiences in a barber’s shop the first time he enters one is what he always experiences in barbers’ shops afterwards till the end of his days’. The understanding between a man and his barber is a unique bond. There aren’t many people a man visits regularly, confides in and trusts enough to alter his physical appearance, albeit sometimes bolstered by a dram of the finest of whiskies and beer. I must say, Murdock London is THAT type of barbershop hence Mr. James just keeps coming back to them.

The Ultimate grooming experience started with their signature revitalising facial. Alex used Murdock's signature range of shaving and skincare products, all of which are made in England with all natural ingredients. Created with ingredients such as basil, jojoba oil, rosemary, Aloe Vera and mint, Murdock’s Skincare collection has been specially formulated to effectively cleanse, hydrate and protect a man’s face and hands. With a light, masculine fragrance (which I SUPER love btw), each product in the range fulfills the fundamental needs of men’s skincare with no unnecessary extras… Judging by those ingredients, I’m loving it already and Mr. James as well!

The facial was a 4 step process that involves cleansing, exfoliating, steaming and then moisturising that gives you that lovely glow instantly! Alex used the Cleansing Facial Wash (150ml) £18, a gentle foamy daily facial wash that cleanses the skin of excess oils, dirt and debris leaving you feeling fresh and invigorated! SKIN TIP: Wet your face with a hot towel and allow the steam to fully open your pores to better absorb the product into your skin. Alex said it has extracts of peppermint that reduces sensitivity and wheat protein that soothes inflamed skin while Aloe Vera heals and regenerates cells. Although most facial washes are heavily fragranced and not PH balanced, this facial wash has a light, fresh scent to it and doesn’t dry your skin and make it too oily after every wash. We know how important ph balanced cleansers are, don’t we ladies ?! Skin looks and feels better in a middle ground between acid and alkaline. Throw this balance out of whack (by using the wrong products or eating the wrong foods) and your pH levels will suffer resulting in sensitivity, wrinkles, inflammation or acne. Women don’t like that and of course men certainly don’t as well.

Next, Alex used the Exfoliating Facial Scrub (100 ml)  £18 on Mr. James, applying it in a circular motion to small areas of the face (t-zone especially) and deep cleanse. Exfoliation is quite important in a skincare regimen especially with men. This scrub removes dead and dulling skin cells and makes your skin appear smoother and brighter. It contains Aloe Vera, jojoba oil, pumice & herbal extracts to help cleanse deeply, leaving skin replenished and renewed. Alex let it set in for a little while on the face and followed by applying a hot flannel for no more than a few minutes. The scrub is actually one of Mr.  James’ favourites from the skincare range as it really does leaves his face so smooth and exfoliated ready to shave. The hot towel treatment or the “Steaming session” which opens the pores up and allows the product to be absorb in the skin was really relaxing for the husband and loved every minute of it.  Loads of popular Murdock products were used in preparation for the Traditional Cut-Throat shave which I always look forward to watch. I just love the stylish mens’s razors, badger brushes and other traditional shaving tools they use! The Pre-Shave Oil (100 ml) £34 which was applied before shaving obviously to soften out those whiskers and preps the face for shave. It has all natural ingredients of sweet almond, wheat germ, bergamot and orange that helps moisturises the skin during shaving. Alex applied few pumps of the oil after its freshly washed and exfoliated. He let the pre-shaved oil soak in with a hot towel (soaking the clean towel in half boiling and half cold water) on his face while he prepares for the Murdock Shave Cream. The Murdock Shave Cream (200 ml) £34 was applied with a stylish brush you can also get from Murdock London. Applying with a brush make a thicker lather to better cushion your face for protection. I don’t know about you guys but I have scoops or face brushes for all my face creams. And Yes it does make a difference. Unlike other shaving creams and gels in the market nowadays where most of them contain harsh ingredients and aggressive alcohol that dries up your skin, this cream is quite soothing and moisturising. Fine natural ingredients like evening primrose, borage, sunflower, green tea and marshmallow moisturises your skin as you shave. Traditional wet shaving, done well is such a good experience! Murdock London has loads of tips and tricks so please don’t forget to check their website especially their blog THE MURDOCKMAN.

Post-Shave, Alex then cooled down the skin with cold towel for a few moments to close the pores and to rinse away any residue. After that he applied the Post-Shave Balm (100 ml) £36 that soothes and seals the exposed pores after shaving. It has extracts of Chamomile and Calendula that are powerful natural ingredients that work overtime as natural agents to heal and soothe your tired skin while menthol helps to refresh and take away any lingering sting. Calendula and Chamomile pack a one-two punch that really makes a difference for your skin. Never heard of Calendula? Thought Chamomile was just a tea? Calendula is similar to Aloe Vera in that it has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties. It’s often used to treat wounds and scrapes, helping them heal faster. In oil form, it’s even used to treat eczema, diaper rash, and rosacea. While Chamomile is, of course, a type of tea likely found in your cupboard. But did you know the same herb used in tea to calm your upset stomach can also benefit your skin? It is a miracle plant of sorts. Thanks to alpha-bisabolo, a compound found within, chamomile is known for reducing wrinkles and fine lines. It, like its relative calendula, has anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant qualities that make it very effective for healing the skin. Sorry got carried away there, I can be bit geeky when it comes to skincare ingredients :D

The Moisturising process wouldn’t be complete without using Murdock’s Hydrating Facial Moisturiser (150 ml) £22. Keep the skin hydrated and away from wrinkles, never forget to moisturise. This non-greasy moisturiser absorbs quickly on your skin and has such a lovely fresh scent as well. It has essential vitamins, active ingredients and herb complex hydrate, regenerate, restructure, balance and protect skin. It wakens and uplifts fatigued skin. After moisturising, Alex then used the cooling and soothing Murdock’s Anti-Ageing Eye Serum £24 on Mr. James. It has Cucumber Distillate that helps hydrate, moisturise and soothe tired skin around the eyes. Extracts of Arnica, Elder and Mallow help maintain moisture in the skin, while Polypeptides help blood circulation, decreasing inflammation while improving firmness and elasticity. This eye serum helps reduce puffiness, wrinkles and dark circles. The skin around our eyes are very delicate so it’s very important to keep them hydrated and tap serums and creams gently. For the finishing touch, the Repairing Lip Balm was perfect especially in this very cold weather. This lip salve provides moisture to your lips with anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing and UV protecting qualities. Alex said it contains extracts of apricot, avocado, cranberry, St John’s Wort and is scented with peppermint. The combination of Shea butter, cocoa butter and lanolin prevents excessive loss of moisture to keep your lips feeling and looking healthy. This is also included in THE GENTLEMAN’S SKINCARE SET £35 which is such a perfect gift this Christmas for the men in your Life who are always on the go. Also included in the set was the gentle foaming Avalon Shower Gel. The Avalon Shower Gel has extracts of Ginseng and Aloe Vera. I love that it has both my favourite Ginseng and Aloe Vera. We all know that Ginseng has Anti-ageing benefits. It contains a large amount of phytonutrients, which can stimulate and activate the skin’s metabolism. It rids your skin of the free radicals that gets accumulated when your skin is regularly exposed to sunlight and environmental pollution. It also contains certain ingredients that can increase the production of collagen in the middle layer of the skin known as dermis, making your skin firmer. This collagen makes your skin more elastic and toned, thereby diminishing wrinkles or fine lines on the face and other body parts. It improves complexion and rich in vitamins and minerals and antioxidants which are good for overall skin health. Aloe Vera is added for it's healing and cell regenerating properties. It’s scented with their signature Avalon fragrance which is also a favourite of mine. Yeah I have a weird obsession with men’s scents. I LOVE THEM!

So the husband has been using this set for several weeks now and definitely loving them. For the Price, Quality and Value— It’s brilliant. I really love these Christmas sets as well! We love travelling so much and long flights can dry up your skin so skincare sets are perfect and can ensure your skin remains fresh, hydrated and healthy.

The Ultimate Grooming Experience continued with the beard trim/ beard shaping and moisturised it with Murdock’s famous and award winning Beard Moisturiser (150 ml) £24 (also one of husband's HG).  Then shampoo of course using high quality products and the high quality haircut. Husband always go to Murdock for his haircut when he’s in London but it's the first time to visit this branch and it didn’t disappoint. Service is always top notch. Alex then finished it off with a male manicure and a shoe shine plus Mr. James’ choice of cologne of the day -Napier 1933. The oakmoss cologne scent is warm, green and elegant definitely perfect scent for the modern gentleman this winter.
