THE REVIEW: TOM FORD HONEYMOON EYE COLOUR QUAD FOR SPRING 2016

The new quads from Tom Ford for Spring 2016 is just stunning! I’m a big fan of the eye quads and never been disappointed! Tom Ford knows exactly how to put together a palette. Each quad has four opulent complementing shades achieve multiple looks, from a bold, smoky eye, to a sexy slash of colour processes, the four luxurious finishes- sheer sparkle, satin, shimmer and matte— offer a spectrum of intensity and effects and deliver  incredible shade fidelity and outstanding adhesion. But Honeymoon is just something. Including two custom applicators, Tom Ford’s Eye Colour Quad in Honeymoon is an indulgent essential for any beauty maven. It’s a neutral lovers dream! I mean look at this palette! There are just so many things (price not included LEL) about this quad that made my heart skipped a beat. In terms of texture, finish, application and wear time, it just knocks it outta the park. This particular palette was sold out in a flash both online and in-store that it took awhile for me to get it. Thankfully it’s permanent so when it got restocked last month, I purchased it right after Valentines to treat myself.

Tom Ford Eye Colour Quad Honeymoon is one of the 5 new Quads for Spring 2016. Over the past few years, Tom Ford has discontinued 6 palettes- Violet Dusk, Crushed Amethyst, Cobalt Rush, Burnished Amber, Sahara Haze, and Cognac Sable. But with the new quads, there’s something familiar in each of them. They’re definitely the reworks of the palettes that’s been discontinued. Seems like Tom Ford has taken a little of the old quads and gave them a new breath of Life indeed! Honeymoon is created as a re-work of the Burnished Amber, Disco Dust is the new Cognac Sable, Last Dance is a refresh of Sahara Haze, Lilac Dream is a refresh of Lavender Lust and Starry Night is a refresh of Ice Queen. But in case you own already a bunch of old favourites, no need to worry as there’s something completely fresh about each of the new released quads to love.

So let me talk more about this stunning quad. Honeymoon is in the same formulation as Nude Dip and it’s really gorgeous. Overall, it is a warm copper toned with red/orangey undertones with a beautiful soft, metallic and frosty finish. It uses the same one of a kind technology from Tom Ford as the Nude Dip quad. Meaning the formula can be used wet or dry. With wet application , the colours become more intense, chromatic and metallic. Dry application gives a softer less metallic colour on the lids. It yields  a beautiful colour payoff.

Pigmentation wise, It’s quite good and lasts up to 8 hours (with a primer). Without a primer, about 6 hours.

Like the Nude Dip quad, the Honeymoon quad shades are embossed with TF on them different than the other eye shadows in the new collection. With the wet/dry application, strength of pigmentation, the synergy of all the shades with each other and the quality of the ingredients, I would say this is certainly a new favourite ( along with my Cognac Sable, Nude Dip and Cocoa Mirage) and worth checking out.  I bought mine last time at House of Fraser for £64 a pop. I know, I know they’re quite pricy for 4 eyeshadows but guys you have to understand that as a makeup-artist and a beauty obsessed, I always go for quality! When it comes to eyeshadows, we’ve been burned enough to know that not all are made equal: Products promise you the moon and then deliver lackluster colour payoff, a formula that creases within fifteen minutes of wear, or a finish that’s more shockingly disco-ball than office appropriate. Not cool.

All the shades are silky and pigmented. They apply smoothly without any fall-out where the colours are complex and frosty without being too glittery. Honeymoon contains:

*Honeymoon shade #1
A medium, coppery orange with warm undertones and a frosted finish. Both dry and dam, it had opaque coverage, but the damp application made it appear slightly darker and more metallic

*Honeymoon shade #2
A medium-dark, coppery bronze with warm, reddish- orange undertones and a frosted sheen. Blends well with shade 1.

*Honeymoon shade #3
A warm plum that’s a beauty and has to be my favourite shade on this quad. It’s a medium-dark cranberry with warm, reddish-coppery undertones and a frosted sheen. Does reminds me of Tom Ford Burnished Amber Quad but cooler and has less pink compared to it. Mostly opaque applied dry with a lighter, warmer look to it, while the damp application was deeper and more red-toned overall with a smoother sheen. It’s silky and application is  smooth, easy, no fall out or any creasing for several hours. Blends quite well too.

*Honeymoon shade #4
Quite a deep brownish warm plum with a frosty finish. It wasn’t as shimmery as the other shades, which is something the quad really needed for better cohesion and makes it ideal for the crease application (think smouldering and smoky). This shade really added depth to the outer crease and love love it! Application is so good, no fall out or creasing and lasts at least 8 hours.

Final verdict: I really adore these highly pigmented shades for their smooth application and staying power. They blend so quite well, are buildable and lasts even without a primer.

I mean you might be familiar with the scenario where you start your day with perfectly made-up eyes. Your lashes are long and lifted, your cat-eye wings are as symmetrical as they’ll ever be and your eyeshadow is blended so skillfully that you wish you could give yourself a high five. But a few hours later, you glance in the bathroom mirror to find a pair of shockingly faded, creased eyelids. What was a makeup masterpiece this morning is now a hot mess. I’ve been there, done that. If you want a face-saving product that survive the 9-5 grind with flying colours, great pigmentation, quality of ingredients, easy application, wet/dry application and the perfect shades for all seasons— get the Tom Ford Eye Quad in Honeymoon!

As of the moment it’s sold out pretty much online in the UK but don’t worry as it’s part of the permanent collection so it’s only a matter of time and perfect ninja skills until you can get this bad boy. I'm also going to get Last Dance the next time and their cream eyeshadows from the collection, they're just too pretty to miss! Meanwhile keep on checking these links below!

You can find the quads at House of Fraser, Harrods, Selfridges.

Have you picked up this quad as well? What do you love about it?
