THE REVIEW: LEE JIHAM DR.'S CARE VITA-PROPOLIS AMPOULE, BEE GLUE YOUR FACE NEEDS

Ampoules are very concentrated treatments that are used to target skin concerns such as fine lines, dullness and rough texture, and infuse skin with a natural glow. They often come in smaller sizes due to their concentration and some brands even sell them in sets of one-time use vials or capsules as a special treatment program. So today, I’m going to share with one ampoule that definitely earned HG status on my skincare routine.  Why I love this? It’s because of the star ingredient: the PROPOLIS EXTRACT. What is it? Well, Bees make more than honey.  They also make gunk called propolis. And this "bee glue" is a powerful health balm.  In fact, studies show it has anti-cancer properties.  Bees make propolis by gathering resin from pine and other cone-producing evergreen trees.  They blend the resin with wax flakes and pollen, and take it back to the hive. There they use the sticky mess to patch holes, seal cracks and build panels in the hive.

But propolis does more than architectural duty.  It also acts as an antiseptic barrier protecting the hive from contamination and from external invaders like mice, snakes, and lizards. In fact, the name propolis comes from the Greek meaning "defence of the city." Amazing isn’t it? The antimicrobial properties of propolis protect the hive from viruses and bacteria. Researchers found that bees living in hives coated with propolis have lower bacteria in their body and also 'quieter' immune systems.

And propolis doesn't just benefit bees. For thousands of years folk medicine practitioners have used bee glue to treat abscesses, heal wounds, and fight infection.  In fact, propolis was listed as an official drug in the London pharmacopoeias of the 17th century.

In skincare, propolis’s antiviral and antimicrobial action provides wonderful benefits for acneic skin as well as those of us who deal with a lot of environmental pollution. It forms a barrier just like how bees use it, and is very nutritious with antioxidants and vitamins, hence it’s growing popularity in skin care.

SO WHAT IS THIS?

LJH Vita Propolis Ampoule
A multi-tasking, glow-creating serum ampoule packed with 50% Propolis extract and 20% Multi-vitamins. Perfect for giving an instant "gwang" (dewy glow in Korean) to skin. It also revitalises skin, helping to even tone, smooth texture and improve dullness. For all skin types. Suitable for acne prone skin.

BIT OF THE BRAND

Lee Jiham (LJH)
Dr Lee Ji Ham Cosmetics are a chain of Skin & Aesthetics Clinics with over 50 Clinics in S. Korea. The brand was founded as there was a lack of suitable skincare cosmetics products for their own skin & aesthetics clinic's patients and Dr Lee JH was the first to develop & introduce "Cosmeutical" products-Combining Cosmetics with Pharmaceutical products in Korea. All products are researched & developed to suit Sensitive Skin types, and even patients who have had aesthetics procedures done, be it laser treatments or even cosmetic surgeries!

Among his many achievements, Dr. Lee was known and highly appreciated for treating sensitive, troubled and uneven skin tones, hence the birth of this super ampoule.

The dermatologists from Lee Ji Ham recommend to use this ampoule immediately after cleansing and toning.

APPLICATION
Use after cleansing and toning. Spread a pea size amount onto skin in an outwards motion. Follow with a moisturiser. I recommend to always use a sunscreen or BB Cream/ BB cushion with SPF during the day time.

I love adding a drop of Vita Propolis Ampoule to my skincare routine (a little goes a very long way!), or to a BB/CC cream or foundation. This one drop makes a huge difference - not only does it instantly brighten the skin, but it surprisingly revitalises our skin over time. And because it is incredibly light-weight and non-sticky, mixing this serum doesn't affect the texture of the cream or foundation  and it doesn't feel like there is an extra layer of product. blended a few drops of serum into a liquid foundation to give a dewy, naturally luminescent finish (“gwang”). This is a great way to ensure that your foundation application doesn’t become cakey or dry throughout the course of the day. I also happen to love and mix few drops of this ampoule onto my finger tips and gently dab on the apples and brow bones of the face – a great way to brighten up the face, with a more subtle shimmer than a highlighter.

RESULTS
This ampoule gives me that instant glow thats why I’m obsessed and can’t definitely live without this! Besides the dewy glow, it keeps me hydrated while fighting bacteria! It keeps my pores closed and clean! What I love about these type of ampoules is that they not only have anti-aging ingredients, but many also have hydrating ingredients. A few drops mixed into your cream can help boost its effects on skin and even make your moisturiser more spreadable. Propolis is noncomedogenic and emollient on top of its nutritional and protective capabilities, so it's obvious why it’s being used in skincare, and it looks like studies are going to get it even more attention, so definitely keep an eye on bee glue!

WHERE TO BUY
In the UK you can buy this ampoule at this lovely shop I’ve just recently discovered, The Silk Rose, here. They stock pretty much my fave Korean brands!

Also available at Glow Recipe, here.

Have you tried this stuff already?
XOXO
